"...Simons' developed melodic sensibilities and production smarts are put to good use on this debut EP, which came out in September, especially on the bright, hand-clappy "Call It Even" (which Ben Gibbard of The Postal Service probably wishes he wrote) and "The Foot of the Stairs," with its soaring falsetto vocals." -CP

Rostrum Records is proud to announce that our latest signee, Pittsburgh rapper S. Money, has been honored by URB Magazine in their NEXT 1000 campaign. The NEXT 1000 campaign has brought URB Magazine readers 20 breaking artists per week over the past year. Check out the article on S. Money by visiting the link below the quote!

“While most rappers are trying to squeeze in their eight hours of recommended shut-eye like the rest of the free world, Khalid "S. Money" Kareem is wide awake constructing his next banger. This 22-year old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native (along with his group Tha Govament) is causing quite a stir. Underground king, and URB bff, Bun B, has even told the young talent that he has "a sixteen bars game like no other." Such a compliment from a well-known and respected heavyweight is something one can only earn, not buy. Then again, with an average work speed of three hours a record, S. Money earns all that comes his way.” URB Magazine

http://www.urb.com/promotions/next1000/profiles/928-S.+Money.php

S. Money also graces the cover of the March 2008 issue of Pittsburgh’s Jenesis Magazine. Please take a few minutes to read “S. Money: Meet The Man.

Rostrum Records is proud to announce the release of S. Money’s all-new mixtape “New Money.” S. Money is the newest addition to the Rostrum camp, which is already home to rising star Wiz Khalifa. S. Money is a legend on the streets of his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. The 22 year old rapper has paid his dues by making a name for himself in Pittsburgh, as well as other cities such as Atlanta, Miami, and New York City. S. Money has collaborated with major label artists and DJ’s such as Bun B., DJ Kay Slay, Peedi Crakk, Don P, and MC Eiht. He has sold thousands of mixtapes independently as the leader of his crew The Govament, and his last two releases, “Doe Boy” and “Doe Boy 2,” have arguably caused the greatest city-wide buzz Pittsburgh has seen for an urban artist.

Most recently, S. Money’s hit “I’m the Man” became one of only two local records to be added into rotation on Pittsburgh’s 106.7 WAMO in recent memory. “New Money” is a homegrown product with appearances from Boaz, Kev Da Hustla, Broadway Dre, and Mona. Production credits also go to local Pittsburgh talent Juliano, Sledgren, E. Dan, H, and Skywalka. The all-new mixtape is in stores May 6th. Rostrum Records also plans a summer DVD release of all of S. Money's music videos and concert footage.

S. Money and Rostrum Records will be celebrating the release of “New Money” at DeJa Vu Lounge May 9th at 10pm. S. Money will also be performing the following evening at an under 21 event at Club Gravity in Cheswick.

"Prince of the City 2 is a continuation of the quality I've come to expect from Wiz Khalifa, an edgy, versatile rapper with the pulse of the youth and the respect of the elders in a simple mixtape." –Jake Paine Senior Editor at HipHopdx.com

“This is hands-down the best non-Lil Wayne mixtape of 2007. Wiz seems to have a new sense of swagger and comfort on the mic—his cocky, smoked-out personality is coming through stronger than ever now. And with his stable of young beatmakers churning out unique, infectious anthems for days, overpriced super producers should be very afraid.” -Brendan Frederick, XXL

Ha, how are they going to call Rostrum "small-fry???" Well, I guess it's David vs. Goliath time!

WIZ KHALIFA UPDATE (VIBE, ROLLING STONE and MASS APPEAL)

Some Amazing WIZ News:
WIZ rocked the house last Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd of 500 people in Pittsburgh. We were turning away droves of fans at the door. There is some footage of the show making its way around the internet. We'll get something properly edited soon. For now, check out the video we found and posted on WIZ's myspace (www.myspace.com/wizkhalifa).

There is a great album review of WIZ's "Show and Prove" in this month's VIBE MAGAZINE (Game on the cover). It is right under the Ciara review. There is no link on the net, so here is the text:

"When 19-year-old Wiz Khalifa says, 'I came from nothing,' he means it in more ways than one: He spits traditional tales of hardship, and his Pittsburgh hometown has never produced an MC of significance. Outfitted with slick swagger and a highly enunciative flow, Khalifa is an East Coast star-in-waiting. Imagine Juelz Santana with emotional depth instead of non sequiturs and you've got Wiz. 'Burn Sumthin' is a hustler's anthemm that recalss early Jay-Z, and the sparse, infectious 'Damn Thing' hints at Khalifa's ear for hits. All together, Show and Prove is a snapshot of a gifted rapper in his formative years." --Andrew Nosnitsky

WIZ also has an amazing spread in this month's MASS APPEAL with Ron Artest on the cover. WIZ is listed as one of the TOP 5 new artists in Hip Hop. “Wiz Khalifa may become Pittsburgh’s most prominent voice since Andy Warhol.” The article is reprinted below.

--WIZ was also the lead in an article that came out today in the PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE about the biggest music stories of 2006. Read it here: http://www.postgazette.com/pg/06355/747616-42.stm

WIZ's new single, "Pittsburgh Sound," continues to play on WAMO each night. We hear the phone calls have been crazy.

WIZ was in ROLLING STONE this month (Snoop on cover) as the "New Artist To Watch." http://www.rollingstone.com/news/artiststowatch and reprinted below. Other "New Artists to Watch" this year were Rick Ross, Gnarls Barkley, and the Raconteurs, so WIZ is in good company.

Wiz Khalifa Featured in Mass Appeal & Vibe Magazine review!!

Fresh off of his ROLLING STONE feature, Wiz Khalifa is now being featured in this month’s MASS APPEAL(Ron Artest on cover). Along with the Mass Appeal article “Next of Kin”, which features Wiz as the lead emcee for the top 5 up and comers of 2007, you can read VIBE magazine’s rave review of Wiz’s “Show and Prove” album on page 112 in their January 2007 issue (The Game on cover)..

…When 19 year old Wiz Khalifa says “I came from nothing,” he means it in more ways than one: He spits traditional tales of hardship, and his Pittsburgh hometown has never produced an MC of significance. Outfitted with slick enunciative flow, Khalifa is an East Coast star-in-waiting. Imagine Juelz Santana with emotional depth instead of non sequiturs and you’ve got Wiz. “Burn Sumthin” is a hustler’s anthem that recalls early Jay Z, and the sparse, infectious “Damn Thing” hints at Khalifa’s ear for hits. All together, “Show and” Prove” is a snapshot of a gifted rapper in his formative years. –Andrew Nosnitsky VIBE 2007

Wiz Khalifa's star is rising!

There is so much WIZ KHALIFA news, I don't even know where to start. Things continue to progress at a wonderful pace for the Prince of Pistolvania. “Show and Prove,” Wiz's new album, has been selling out of record stores all over the Pittsburgh region since it's release two weeks ago, and online orders are coming in from all across the country (and world). In the first 8 days, Wiz sold an impressive 1,000 units without any proper distribution (we're talking local 'Mom and Pop' stores and out of the trunk). The demand is so great that I have kids from every neighborhood surrounding Pittsburgh asking me if they can buy in bulk and sell the CD themselves in their area (I oblige, of course). The network grows daily...

In the past week, Wiz's Press presence has been amazing. Some highlights:

--The Pittsburgh City Paper, which is Pittsburgh’s version of The Village Voice (circulation is 95,000 in a 75 mile radius) is running a cover story on Wiz this week. The new issue came out today and is available in just about every bar, restaurant, barber shop, etc., in the city. Check it out:

http://www.pittsburghcitypaper.ws/main.cfm

--The Pittsburgh Post Gazette (circulation on Sunday is over 1,000,000) is running a CD review of Wiz's "Show and Prove" this weekend. They choose only three albums to highlight per week. This week it is Wiz Khalifa, The Killers, and Beck. They post these reviews online early. Check it out (scroll down):

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06278/727439-42.stm

--Also, check out “A Brother Born In The Hood,” which is an in depth/exclusive interview that Wiz Khalifa did with the staff of YoRaps.com in the “Next 2 Blow” section.

http://www.yoraps.com/next2blow.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1158740397&archive=&start_from=&ucat=4&

--And The New Pittsburgh Courier featured Wiz and “Show And Prove” this past week. Check out “Wiz Khalifa Keeps It Poppin.”

http://newpittsburghcourieronline.com/articlelive/articles/35992/1/Wiz-Khalifa-keeps-it-poppin/18-year-old-Allderdice-grad-to-release-debut-album.html

On top of all of that:

--Wiz performed at PNC Park (home to the Pittsburgh Pirates) last friday before the opening of the final series of the season.

--Pittsburgh’s 106.7 WAMO asked Wiz to do the introduction for DJ Boogie's 3pm-7pm daily show (DJ Boogie is also the MD).

--WPTS has Wiz at #2 on their Hip Hop chart.

--Wiz's song, "Crazy Since the 80s" was featured on XXL's website last week. This is the fifth time they have chosen to feature a Wiz Khalifa song.

--Wiz's "Damn Thing" peaked at #3 on the RapAttacks and Rap Network charts.

--Wiz now has over 300,000 plays on Myspace, check out the NEW site www.myspace.com/wizkhalifa

We are proud to announce that Rostrum Records has signed WIZ KHALIFA to an exclusive recording contract! WIZ is a 17-year old rapper from the wonderful city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He rhymes effortlessly and writes songs with unparalleled passion. He spent much of his childhood traveling around the world, as his parents were both in the U.S. army, serving in Germany, Japan, and in Desert Storm. This lifestyle forced him to grow up faster than normal and offered him many experiences from which to draw inspiration. WIZ is wise beyond his years. He is truly talented and we are lucky to have him on our team.
